''Writing about poetry''
The poem ''The Raven'' by Edgar Allan Poe is about the suspensful and mysterious evens that take place at midnight dreary of December. The author was born in Boston and was the son of traveing actors. He led a short and unhappy life yet he wrote a lot of short stories, poems, and one novel.
The mood of the story is mysterious and suspensful. The author tells us about the strange tapping on the door but when he opens it there's nobody out there. It makes him nervous, but after he discovers that the tapping was made by the Raven, the bird that was sitting at the door, he gets a comic feeling. Poetic devices used in the story are assonance -'' for the rare and radiant maiden whom the the angels name Lenore...'', also rhyme -'' once apon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary...'', and alliteration -''...while I nodded nearly napping...'', repitition -'' as of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door...''. The setting shows that ''...it was in the black December, and each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor...''.
I liked the mysterious feeling about the poem. It keeps you in suspense while you read it. Also it reminded me of my childhood when I was a kid and I was afraid of darkness and all the strange sounds in it. But probubly the most interesting I find whan the author opens the door so many times and doesn't see anybody there... it really turns on your emagenation, you start to suspect. I think it's a great poem with so many things hidden and never discovered, with symbolism and mystery.
