Bilingual education - learning the material in two languages ( your native and target language) at the same time. It helps people to over the hard time of adaptation in the foreign country. Students who attend bilingual classes have a chance to learn the academic material while learning the target language and helping to mention their native language.

Before coming to the U.S. I attended the International school in my own country, Ukraine. I didn`t speak E English that much and could only briefly understand the simple things. Teachers of the bilingual classes helped me to catch English faster by explaining the material in both languages. After I came to the country I never took the bilingual classes again, still those eight months of bilingual classes helped me a lot.

I think this is specially important to the U.S. becouse the country has a variety of foreign- born people. Usially it’s hard for them to adjust to the new environment by itself and also all of the sudden start to speak foreign language. Even though a majority of students in the school who’s bilingual can attend their bilingual cases, still there are many students who are in the minority and can not get such a special offer. US government should consider this as a serious thing about adduction and keep financing such programs.

When you have difficulty in communication with people because of language the only way to learn something is to get help from somebody else.

It could be a friend or a tutor, but it’s much better if you can do it during your class time and know that you can be helped at any time you need it. It takes time to learn new vocabulary in each subject but when the teacher explains it in both languages students get a better idea of the material itself, new terms and vocabulary also it makes them do not look so bad in front of American students. I experienced it myself and it’s not one of the things that help you to learn. You see how much you donut know and it brings you down.

Bilingual education is not acumen thing in my country but when I came to the United States I thought it’s a good idea to give students such an opportunity to learn the target language faster. My opinion is that the bilingual education should be increased for the students who need it but still students should not abuse it and stay in the program for too long. Mostly students attend bilingual programs only when it’s necessary and leave it as soon as they feel confident to study only in English. Bilingual program is great opportunity to learn English in faster and easier way.
